Firing Pellets Full-Auto

by Tom Gaylord   |  August 2nd, 2011 9

Sure, there have been BB and airsoft machine guns that are entertaining, if often frustrating. But now you can fire airgun pellets with power and accuracy. Better lay in a big supply, though! You can read all about it in the 9/20 issue of SGN.

The author found the SMG 22 a fun submachine gun to shoot. The gun was workhorse-
dependable, as long as the right trigger technique was used.

The SMG 22 is the first production pellet gun to fire full-auto on CO2. Manufacturers
have made a variety of airsoft and BB machine guns in the past.

The belt comes out of the drum on the left side of the receiver, passes through the
mechanism, and back out the receiver’s right side and into the drum again.

One belt comes assembled, but the other is put together by the owner. Interlocking
plastic links fit together with pins that allow each link to move freely.

Five links are placed over the pins of the lower loading block. Then a pellet is placed into
the end of each link. The loader is simple in design, but effective.

Once all five links are loaded, the top half of the loading block presses the pellets down
into the links so they’re all held at the same depth for firing.

The feed pawl pulls the belt in from the left and pushes it back out and into the drum on
the right. The cover would be closed during firing, of course.

The manual calls this a trigger adjustment, but the slotted screw at the left adjusts the
flow of gas to the bolt, which controls the cyclic rate of the gun.

Gaylord didn’t have to search for volunteers. Here, a shooter tries the gun on high-
pressure air. The air tank is below his elbow at the back of the SMG-22.

COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME (TIM) KNOW WHERE I COULD FIND MORE INFO ON THIS .22 CAL AIRGUN—THIS LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING I COULD HAVE A LOT OF FUN WITH PROVIDED IT'S USED WITH THE SAME RESPECT AS A FULL AUTO .22 CAL LR SETUP– 1500 FPS IS A SPEED TO BE AWARE OF, NO MATTER HOW SMALL THE PROJECTILE. I AM INTERESTED IN THE INHERENT ACCURACY AND RELIABILITY OF THE PELLET GUN, WHERE TO BY PRESSURE CYLINDERS, X-TRA BELT CLIPS, ECT., IS THIS A BUMP-FIRE AUTO OR TRUE GAS FED CYCLIC ONE TRIGGER PULL, FIRE AND FORGET; OIL CAN DISPLAY DESTROYER. IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHERE I CAN LOCATE ONE OR TWO OF THESE PELLET GUNS FOR PURCHASE OR WHO/WHERE THE MANAFACTURER IS LOCATED, APPROXIMATE PRICE PER-UNIT PLEASE E-MAIL ME ASAP AT (tparker166@live.com). Oh, By the way do you happen to know what ATF classify's this product as, full auto machine gun, rifle, shotgun, pistol, or is it a non-classified product purchased under similiar guidlines as full-auto paint ball, or full auto CO2 cartridge or freon canister BB guns ? Any special forms, registration or other BS required for purchase or ownership, from a federal angle ? I'm pretty sure State, City, County restrictions may apply. I'm a retired firefighter/paramedic from the Washington DC area, and in that jurisdiction the laws are just plain old Unconstitutional in my point of view. I would appreciate any information you could help me find and then purchase these products..

PS-I WOULD LIKE TO SUBSCRIBE TO SHOTGUN NEWS, COULD YOU SEND ME INFO ON THIS AS WELL.

    THANX,

    TIM

I FOUND THE WEB PAGE ON THIS PRODUCT..(1) IT'S A BIT PRICY, BUT STILL LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF FUN..

    (2) THE MANAFACTURER SAYS THE VELOCITY ON THIS IS 600 FT/PER/SEC. NOT 500YDS/PER/SEC WHICH TRANSLATES TO 1500FT/PER/SEC, SO WHAT FULL AUTO AT 600 FT/PER IS STILL MESSY AND DANGEROUS. THEN AGAIN FROM A PHYSICS POINT OF VIEW THE max/ft/per/sec depends on just how much pressure the unit can safely handle, If it could be and it can, be hooked up to a small air-supply bottle w/ a pressure gauge attached (any scuba supply store) and the company supplies tolerances for max pressure prior to failure, with a little tweaking one might get 1000 ft/per/sec safely. The price looks to be $599.00, I'd like to hear from someone who has purchased one ?? tparker166@live.com

Provide the link!! Do it now before you can`t!!

  • Rusty Shackleford

It's a pellet gun. 500 yards per second seems a little bit too fast to be factual. Can you kill a goat with it ? Just curious, because the .50 cal pellet gun that I have has taken out a goat. Thanks, Rusty. :3))

I own one of these guns, and with a pellet velocity of just under 600FPS, and a cyclic rate of 720 pellets per minute (12 per SECOND!), it's a blast to shoot, and no issues with the BATF, as it's NOT A FIREARM!!!!

    Get one, and enjoy!!!

i like this gun but it needs to come in 25 cal. &357 cal.

I have one also and with a few simple tweeks got mine up to approx 1170 feet per second, enough power to eradicate those wild cats on the farm.

    • Terry

What mods did you do to achieve this velocity?
