The Germans had the very best until near the end of World War II, when anything that would fire a bullet was pressed into combat service. See the July 1 SGN for Kokalis’ investigation of a rifle once-cheap that’s now expensive.

I have 6 of these fine german crafted rifles. I strongly believe there is no better bolt action than the K98's.

Visions of the MG 42 aka the buzz saw dance in my head.

Excellent article. The VG1 shows how desperate things were getting toward the end.

I have 5 K98s, including an SS rifle made at Mathausen, and like them all and shoot them all. When the chance comes to add more of them to the pile I will. These are my favorite rifles. If I could have only one centerfire smokeless powder rifle I might choose one of these.

Is there such thing as an "SS" rifle? Or did someone stamp SS on it a few years ago and add a few hundred dollars to the price?

i have one of the k98 mousers, they are one of the best, in ww2, also have a brtish 303, enfield, which is also a very good, weapon, and also a m1 grand, which also is one of the best in ww2..

I have numerous K98's. I have Oberndorf Mauser from 1933 to 1945 with the exception of 1942. You can see the quality go down and shortcuts that were done to expedite production.

Hi Dan Iam a disabled Iraq War Vet, lost both legs, during my 4th tour, now I get around in an electric wheelchair do you think the K-98 would be easily fired from an elec wheel chair, I hope you dont mind my asking but your posting to me was the one that sounded more knowlegeble. I have looked all around here wherfe I am currently undergoing my rehab iam in a Military Hospital for Amputees, anyway I have been thru gun shops and pawn places, and Iyet I cant find anything but the post war czech's which I do not want do you know how I could aquire a real all matching 98 that was either prewar or 41 thru 1943 with all the markings and symbols, I am afraid of getting ripped off if I go thru the mail, do you know of anyone who will sell one ?? I would appreciate your help in this matter if you have the time and if not thats fine, either way I hope you werent put out by my request my email is slidingbear56@aol.com I do hope to hear from you so untill then I will again thank you for your time and consideration.
